In this issue we take a look at a 3.1.2-channel Dolby Atmos soundbar from Samsung, a Hisense projector system that thinks it's a TV, and an SVS subwoofer that makes a virtue of its compact dimensions (the more 'traditional' side of our hobby is repped by Anthem's MRX 740 receiver and LG's 65in C1 OLED). We even check out a…

apple tv 4k upgraded

Apple has upgraded its Apple TV 4K media player, introducing a number of new features powered by the brand’s A12 Bionic chipset. The retooled media box (priced £169) comes with a new Siri Remote, plus high frame rate 4K support with Dolby Vision, and novel colour calibration technology. So will this update offer enough to convert new users, or tempt the Apple faithful to upgrade? Key to these improvements is the adoption of Apple’s A12 Bionic silicon, which not only provides a boost in graphics performance, but promises enhanced video decoding and audio processing. Before experiencing that, however, buyers will notice the new Siri Remote. Apple claims this offers better ease-of-use thanks to tweaked buttonry. A new clickpad control supports five-way navigation, along with the directional swipes that are already part of the…

Man of Steel (4K BD) After Justice League and Batman v Superman… how could we resist a return trip to the bombastic origin of the 'Snyderverse’? Nomadland (Disney+) Frances McDormand’s stunning lead performance ensures Chloé Zhao’s episodic Oscar-winner is a road trip worth taking. ZeroZeroZero (BD) The thrilling eight-part cocaine-smuggling crime saga makes a welcome leap from Sky Atlantic to HD disc. Uncle Peckerhead (BD) Unexpectedly good-natured and very funny horror-comedy about a struggling punk band and their demonically possessed roadie. The Undoing (BD) Hugh Grant and Nicole Kidman bring plenty of star power to HBO’s gripping and beautifully shot six-part whodunnit.…
