Welcome to our biannual beauty issue. Now, while I love me a lipstick, a broader take on beauty has always interested me more. Yes, there’s that overused maxim “Beauty comes from within,” but I like to dig into what’s within. Originality, courage, resilience, creativity, a sense of oneself: That’s what makes someone distinctive and, yes, beautiful. I first met Tommy Dorfman at a polo match (amusingly atypical for both of us) when she was doing the young actor rounds a few years ago. We became fast friends: She is hilarious, driven, and one of the most perceptive “young actors” I’ve met. During COVID, we didn’t talk often, but I noticed some physical changes on her Instagram.
