The Travel Issue’s cover story profiles philanthropist Anne Wang-Liu, who has segued from a career in banking to influential roles in key charity groups. The mother of two talks about nurturing the arts, helping others and how travel opens the mind. The issue gives a nod to World Environment Day by introducing eco-conscious couples—Zatashah and Aubry Mennesson, and Melissa and Daryl Foong—who talk about their green activism and how they are changing the way they operate their businesses. In this special Eid al-Fitr edition, politician-activist Yenny Wahid talks about traditions that enrich life. The second daughter of the late Indonesian president Abdurrahman Wahid, she raised her children in the Islamic faith, and Eid al-Fitr is a special time for them. stay gold

At a dinner with friends, we were recalling our favourite ‘80s movie and for me one in particular comes to mind, The Outsiders. The film directed by Francis Ford Copolla starred then-unknowns Matt Dillon, Tom Cruise, C Thomas Howell, and the late Patrick Swayze. It’s a coming-of-age movie about teen angst, gang wars, dysfunctional families, and the loss of innocence. One particular scene that stands out was when Ponyboy (C Thomas Howell) and Johnny (Ralph Macchio) are marvelling at the golden sunset, and Johnny says, “Too bad it can’t stay like this all the time.” To which Ponyboy retorts, “Nothing gold can stay.” This month we celebrate Generation T, highlighting 50 remarkable individuals in the country, aged 40 and under, who have made marks in their respective fields. In this issue,…

they’re meant to shine

The weather was temperamental on the day of our cover shoot. It was at the tail end of summer, just as the rainy season was making its presence felt. Despite the gloom of the outdoors, our five Generation T honourees arrived with cheery dispositions, and were all ready to work the camera. Cat Arambulo-Antonio was the first to arrive at Grand Hyatt Manila, and instantly livened up the room with her infectious energy. Soon after, Paloma Urquijo, Paco Caparas, Nico Bolzico, and Marion Branellec-de Guzman followed suit and each took turns posing in various areas of the hotel’s beautiful multi-level bar, The Peak. Despite squeezing the photo shoot in between meetings, Nico kept everyone in stitches with his signature wit. It was the perfect opportunity for our 2019 honourees to meet…
