This year, Valve Corporation, the digital games distributor, publisher and developer, is launching its next iteration of a compact gaming PC to compete with the big three gaming consoles from Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft. But Valve’s first attempt at the Steam Machine was just over a decade ago, in 2015, when it was becoming apparent that the future of gaming was digital and wireless. This gaming system was set to revolutionise your living room. However, just as Google produces the Android operating system for phones manufactured by Samsung, Motorola and others, Valve didn’t make the console itself, and there wasn’t just one version. Instead, gaming PC giants like Alienware, Syber and ZOTAC produced their own Steam consoles with different specifications, but all running Valve’s SteamOS.
