What inspired you to start your author journey? When I was in grammar school I knew that writing would be my artistry and voice. It’s going to be the tool that will help me express myself effectively. When I was ten years old, Lady E, my late maternal grandmother, told me I was going to write a book while cooking breakfast. I said, “Ok Grandma, but I kept it in the back of my mind. I wrote a biography on a female R&B singer two years before the pandemic. It was shelved due to editorial and copyright issues. What inspired you to start your entrepreneur journey? I was inspired by my cousin, Johnnie Bunting Jr., to start my entrepreneur journey. Johnnie gave me the idea about the candle business. After our conversation, I instantly started doing lengthy research. I fell in love with the art of candle making. I was constantly testing candles to ensure that I chose the right scents for my business. My mom, Reverend Sylvia Johnson, is another inspiration because growing up I watched her run various businesses, such as being a hairdresser, book store owner, banquet hall owner, and real estate agent. What inspired you to start your fashion brand? My inspiration for Exquisite Slay came after a tearful conversation with my mom in 2020. I was stressed about finding a new job. My mom mentioned I should start my own business. I was hesitant, but starting a t-shirt business is something I've wanted to do since high school. I decided to take the plunge and start my own business. What does the brand name Exquisite Slay represent? The brand name Exquisite Slay represents our mission of empowerment and inclusivity. What inspired you to open Pure Juice Bar? What inspired me to open Pure juice bar was my mother. A few years ago, she was diagnosed with cancer. After conventional treatments like chemotherapy and radiation failed, I began researching ways to boost the immune system naturally using raw fruits and vegetables. Through my research, I discovered the numerous benefits of juicing and read inspiring testimonials from others who had experienced positive changes in their health. What inspired you to become a writing consultant? Writing has always been a part of my life since first or second grade. As a child, I would write short stories. As I grew older, I began writing poetry. Working with words was always intriguing for me. I had my first piece of poetry published while in high school. Personally, academically, and professionally I find that writing in all forms is an art in and of itself. It doesn’t matter what it is; from project documentation, corporate communication/presentations, quality reports, white papers, and proposals to poems, short stories, journals, or self-help books, writing is everywhere and is a wonderful mode of expressing our ideas, thoughts, and emotions.
