Usually when Porsche announces a new model that isn’t a 911, my schedule is barely affected. Porsche commits to internal combustion engine Launch of 992 C4 underlines commitment to traditional Porsche power Porsche has used the 68th International Motor Show at Frankfurt to release eight new models, including two new 911s, to underline its future product strategy. The company announced that moving forward it will focus on three drive technologies for its sports cars: highly emotive petrol engines, powerful plug-in hybrid powertrains and all-electric drives. It demonstrated its commitment to continuing with the internal combustion engine by unveiling the 992 C4 Coupe and Cabriolet. The new C4 in both Coupe and Cabriolet body styles borrows a water-cooled clutch and front differential from the 992 C4S. Wet Mode and PASM come as standard on the C4, though Porsche Torque Vectoring with an electrically controlled rear limited-slip differential will be optional.…

Porsche reveals first electric race car ‘99X’ single seater will compete in Formula E for upcoming debut season Porsche has unveiled its first all-electric sports car ahead of its competitive bow into Formula E later this year. Two of the open-cockpit, single-seater race cars, named the 99X, will compete in the ABB FIA Formula E Championship beginning in November, piloted by works drivers Neel Jani and André Lotterer. Bedecked in Porsche’s traditional racing colours of white, red and black, Porsche says the 99X will serve as a development platform for future fully electric production models. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the 917. If you recall, earlier this year I mentioned that I knew the 911 would be a winner and convinced Porsche to let me race it and prove it. I felt the same way about the 917. It was beautiful and I absolutely loved it. I knew it would be a world-beating car. The story of the 917 is fascinating to say the least. In 1968 the FIA decided that the big-engine prototypes were getting too fast, so it decided it would limit the capacity of prototype cars to three litres. 991.1 GT3: bastion of comfort for the taller driver Dear Sir, I was recently lucky enough to acquire a 991.1 GT3. The reason I went for Porsche is because the other marques do not cater for the taller or larger person – even if you can fit in, the visibility is appalling. In addition I managed to find a GT3 with comfort seats, which given I am 6’5” and broad shouldered, was the only option. At a recent supercar meet there was a large group of owners over six foot, and we were all driving a 911 apart from one. Well done Porsche for making cars for the taller driver.
