the game changers

Sou Fujimoto is a big deal when it comes to the world of architecture. This Japanese icon is known for his delicate structures and jaw-dropping designs. I remember viewing his breathtaking pavilion in the Serpentine Galleries (see photo above) about six years ago. I was dumbstruck with the awesome sight before me. I didn’t know the architect then, so when Philippine Tatler was invited by the Calma cousins (Ed, JP, and Carlo) to meet the genius behind the 2013 Serpentine Pavilion, I definitely could not pass this one up. The collaboration between Fujimoto and the Calmas (set to be revealed in 2021) will be located in Nuvali, Santa Rosa, Laguna. These creative minds are designing an architectural wonder that will surely be the talk of the town and change the Philippine design…

Fujimoto did not go to the shrine anymore as he still had a series of meetings. He did not leave immediately, however: he waited until we were off and…

gracious and grateful

Margarita Forés, hailed as one of Asia’s best chefs and the dynamic woman behind some of the country’s most stellar restaurants, recently marked a milestone in her life at Bahay na Puti, her family’s ancestral home in Quezon City. Forés’ mother, Baby Araneta, and son Amado pulled out all the stops to make her 60th birthday a merry and memorable one. The award-winning chef was treated to a feast of her favourite dishes in the company of family and friends. She also received a bouquet of magnolias from her loyal staff. Patrons dining at Cibo, Forés’ longstanding chain of Italian restaurants, also took part in the celebration as they were treated to scoops of gelato on her birth date. A grateful Forés expressed her thanks in a heartfelt Instagram post where she happily…
