Entrepreneur, influencer, and philanthropist Laurinda Ho, daughter of casino king Stanley Ho, appears on the cover of Hong Kong Tatler’s October issue and discusses her plans for her charity, Smile With Us HK. Elsewhere, we profile Korean actress Song Hye-kyo and photographer Xyza Cruz Bacani. Mother-daughter duo Lisa Xie and Natasha Lau are the cover stars of the October issue. Lisa has been named one of Asia’s best-dressed women and, inspired by her mother, Natasha is now a model and fashion influencer with an impressive social media following. On the cover are not one but two Melissas: Melissa Tan and Melissa Sin. Both women play integral roles in carrying their respective family businesses into 2020 and beyond. great expectations

Does the future ever worry you? We can’t seem to shut out the negativity and prevent all the bad news from seeping in our minds. As I write this, I am on a plane heading back home, staring at the magnificent sight of orange and blue coloured skies. I marvel at the beauty of it all. The ominous sign is still there, with the dark night creeping in, but the deep orange skies strongly tell me that the light will always be there—you just need to find it. For this issue, we highlight the bright and marvelous things to come. Not so much scientific, technological, or medical breakthroughs, not so much human geniuses and marvels; but rather, the anticipation and expectation of great things to come, individually or as a country—and…

There is something about the quiet elegance of this house that discourages loud noise and boisterous behaviour. Not to confuse the polite ambiance with stiffness—far from it. With the two-storey high ceiling in the living room, the sun settles in and bathes the whole place with its warmth. The household staff likewise extended this warm welcome to the four-man Philippine Tatler team led by Editor-in-Chief Anton San Diego, photographer Wig Tysmans together with make-up artist Patrick Rosas. Chilled, refreshing tea sandwiches paired with delicious buko (young coconut) juice still in its shell were served and light conversation just flowed. Our cover subject, Nikki Prieto-Teodoro, currently holds an important government position: special envoy of the Philippines to UNICEF. She excitedly talks about her work with children which started while she was still…

Lee Malone The London-based photographer shot the season’s boldest looks for our menswear feature “On The Run” (p. 158) WOULD YOU RATHER LIVE FOR A WEEK IN THE PAST OR THE FUTURE? I think the past—I’m an old soul. WHAT’S ONE THING FROM YOUR CHILDHOOD THAT WILL SEEM STRANGE TO FUTURE GENERATIONS? Playing with random kids on the street, and talking, socialising, and making friends without a phone. WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF AT THE AGE OF 80? When I’m 80, I hope to still be as passionate as I am now. I see myself still shooting and taking photographs and making art—I don’t think that passion will ever leave me. Marc Henrich Go This architect and part-time photographer shot the futuristic elegance of “Beyond Cutting Edge” and hopped on an adventure in “Building a Dream” (p. 206) WOULD YOU…

a fête for the planet

The Philippine Tatler Ball has been an event that local high society has looked forward to every year since it was first held in 2001. It is an event that has, in essence, become timeless as it has eschewed fads and themes in favour of straightforward, classic elegance and sophistication year after year. This annual invitation-only event has served as an evening of glamour, good times, and—most of all—giving. Slated for 16 November 2019 at the Shangri-La at the Fort, this year’s Tatler Ball promises to be another luxurious affair where exquisite food will be served along with a selection of excellent wines and champagne. The nearly 500 guests will enjoy these along with exciting performances staged for their entertainment. The event will also honour several deserving personalities in five different…
