hooray for summer!

What do I love most about summer? I was thinking about this the other day and there are just so many good things – light evenings, the scents of flowers and cut grass, the feel of warm sunshine on your skin – and I realised that all of them were linked with being outside. It’s why I’m thrilled Prima has teamed up with The Wildlife Trusts to bring you a fun way to enjoy the outdoors this summer. Turn to page 35 to find our 30-day wallchart full of great ideas for every day in June. Give them a try and let me know which ones you enjoyed the most. I reckon mine might just be finding a pretty spot by a rippling stream. We also have some gorgeous summer dresses…

‘i’m a glass half full person… but i can catastrophise!’

Sara lives in London with her husband, Ben, and three children, Lola, 16, Isaac, 13, and Renee, 11. They also have two cats, two dogs, two tortoises, and Sara’s horse, Nelly. She’s back on TV this month fronting her book club series Between The Covers. MY STORY’S BEGINNING Growing up, I always thought I’d be a writer or a journalist. I wanted to be a vet when I was little, I think because of being on Dad’s farm, and I was a huge fan of James Herriot and All Creatures Great And Small. Then I wanted to be in the police,…

what’s on my bookshelf

• The book I recommend to everyone… Hamnet by Maggie O’Farrell. I posted my copy to my sister and she loved it, too. • The book I always come back to… I’m not a re-reader because there are so many books out there that I can’t go back! On Writing by Stephen King is really good. My copy has lots of pages folded over, so I guess that’s the closest thing to actually re-reading a book! • The book I’d want to make into a TV show or film… The Fine Art Of Invisible Detection by Robert Goddard. It’s about a middle-aged Japanese lady who worked as a secretary for a private detective, but then became a private detective herself. She’s this unassuming woman that melts into the background, but she’s also…

let’s get dressy…

MAKE IT MAXI There’s nothing like a trusty summer maxi. Think a gorgeous boho print, nipped-in waist and bell sleeves – just throw it on and you’re ready to go. Keep accessories simple and let the dress do the talking. HOT SPOTS Your classic polka-dot print gets an update thanks to colour-pop spots, playful tiers and bold shoulders. Pretty flats and modern block-heel sandals will add a practical touch to this ladylike style. SUMMER MONO This simple palette is anything but boring, with delicate ruffles, broderie anglaise and tiered hems, you don’t have to wear colour to make a statement this summer. Just add natural accessories, such as an oversized basket bag or a wicker crossbody. FLOUNCY FLORALS You can never have too many florals in your wardrobe, but to be bang on trend this season, look…
