real ways to make life better

Can a magazine change your life? I believe this issue can. Not in an “I-won-the-lottery-and-dropped-30-pounds” sort of way, but in dozens of everyday ways that make life easier, better, or more fun. Alongside their input, we gathered ideas from groundbreaking trade shows and pulled in recommendations…

the new look of green

Talk about sustainability— a bookcase with open sides and back is one of the most versatile pieces of furniture you can own. Use it as a bar, a library, a front-door drop zone, or a dining room buffet. To give this piece from Ballard Designs a custom look, designer Jill Sharp Brinson hung fabric behind the shelves. In the heart of Serenbe, an eco-community near Atlanta, the new look of green building and decorating is showing its face. This fresh and friendly farmhouse—a collaboration between home appliance company Bosch and Jill Sharp Brinson, creative director at Ballard Designs—is a showcase for innovations such as geothermal heating, solar panels, and advanced appliances that make going green smarter than ever.
