Creativity has always been at the heart of this small isle, and it will continue to be one of our greatest exports as we enter this brave (some may say foolhardy) new Brexit arrangement. Certainly the myriad talents who first grew their art form here have brought levels of glitter and sheen to this country that far outstrip its size. Look to our many designers bringing wit and craft to the world’s most famous fashion houses. Our musicians fill the global charts. And not forgetting British entrepreneurs, whose indomitable spirit ensures that as many times as they are knocked down in the tough environment of fashion commerce, they stand up again. And again. Erdem Moralioglu is one such fashion leader. He has been an unstoppable force since he launched his eponymous…

Clear THINKING consider last season’s covetable vinyl macs your warm-up for the glassy sheen set to glaze your wardrobe, body and home this autumn. The plasticised beauty epitomised by Dior’s spring 2000 ad campaign has been resuscitated – designer versions of dry-cleaner-style clear coverings (see Calvin Klein, Balenciaga and Miu Miu), worn atop any outfit even when it isn’t raining, are causing a fashion greenhouse effect. Couple this with the fact that sweating is now a leftfield luxury pursuit. In Oxfordshire, the Sweat Lodge is ahead of the curve with wood-fired saunas used in Native American purification rituals. Alternatively, a bottle of The Gloss by Tan-Luxe cheats a slippery sheen at room temperature. Just be sure to exfoliate first. Now would be the moment for Michael Kors to resurrect the cult…

WHICH TRACK DEFROSTS A FASHION CROWD FASTEST? Rihanna’s “Wild Thoughts” always gets fashion editors moving. YOU PLAYED MIU MIU’S NOW LEGENDARY RESORT 2018 AFTER-PARTY IN PARIS – WHO WAS FIRST ON THE DANCEFLOOR? Alexa Chung. But my partner in crime, Kitty Cash, was also dropping some major moves. WHAT DO YOU WEAR TO DJ? It can go one of two ways. I love to dress up in either a Misbhv tracksuit with Vlone trainers, or a Miu Miu minidress and Giuseppe Zanotti heels. WHAT FOOTWEAR SHOULD FASHION EDITORS WEAR NEXT SEASON SO THAT THEY CAN ACTUALLY DANCE? The new Balenciaga a/w ’17 Triple S sneakers. I want them in every colour. I LOVE HOW YOU WEAR BRIGHT COLOUR AFTER DARK – IS THIS A THING? Spending a lot of time in LA has definitely brightened up my wardrobe. I…

my mother loves to sew. Most of the clothes I wore as a child were pieces she made – at least until I reached that age when you start wanting the same stuff as your friends. She was drawn, back then, to fabrics with texture, so my wardrobe was filed with nubby chenille and terry cloth, which I loved, and corduroy – which I did not. Some of my earliest memories of school are of shuffling down corridors and hearing, louder than life, the whish-whish of my widewale corduroy dungarees as the rib on each trouser leg rubbed against its opposite number. I was convinced all the other kids could hear the sound, too, and that they laughed about it when I wasn’t around. God, I hated those overalls. When…
