You know You’re getting on a bit when you make a noise when rising from low furniture, when your grandkids configure your electronic devices and when you think Frankie Goes to Hollywood’s relax was at the top of the hit parade about 20 years ago. In fact, it was number one in 1984, the year that Ferrari launched the Testarossa. Back then, a mid-engined car with around 400bhp was a supercar. Today there are supercars with 1000bhp and we’re promised electric supercars with the equivalent of 2000bhp. Such enormous performance can be placed in the hands of the general public because of sophisticated electronic systems that keep them safe. The height of sophistication on later evolutions of the Testarossa was anti-lock brakes. useful on the entry to a corner but after that…

sea of red for finali mondiali

THE MUGELLO CIRCUIT IN NORTHERN tuscany once again hosted the finali mondiali, ferrari’s end-of-season motorsport celebration, which on this occasion coincided with scuderia ferrari’s 90th year in competition and the 70th anniversary of ferrari’s first victory in the le mans 24 hours. there were some high spots in formula 1, including nine pole positions and three wins, but titles eluded the team in 2019. however, there was success at le mans, with the 488 winning the hard-fought lmgte pro class. Almost 30,000 enthusiasts packed the stands at mugello for the final day of the four-day extravaganza, which hosts the final and often deciding rounds of the european, asia pacific, and north american ferrari challenge championships. interspersed with these races were mouth-watering, nape-prickling sessions dedicated to clienti corsa cars, including classic f1…

and the overall winner is…

Thanks for all your entries to win a genuine ferrari overall, as worn by employees at the ferrari factory at Maranello. The winner is Vitor sousa, from Portugal, pictured right getting stuck into an extensive restoration of his 1994 456 GT. ‘My first ferrari was an 1988 ferrari Testarossa that I bought in Bristol and drove to Portugal,’ says Vitor. ‘I sold it in 2013 and bought the 456 GT. In february 2019 I started to take care of the 456: major service on the engine, dampers rebuilt, window mechanism rebuilt, interior redone with original Connolly leather… I hope to have the car ready around april, fingers crossed!’ Congratulations, Vitor! The overall is in the post. We also particularly liked the entries from Vern Cornell, standing proudly beside the engine that he’s removed…

view to a thrill

The spectacular roads of Provence and Luberon echoed to the sounds of Ferraris from across the generations for the latest running of the Padre-Figlio regularity rally. A richly varied entry list is virtually guaranteed for this event, with only one example of each model permitted. So it proved, with everything from an early-1960s 250 GT/E to a488 Pista. Uniquely, ownership of a Prancing Horse isn’t the only condition of entry: each driving team has to comprise a father-son line-up – hence padre-figlio in Italian. Some 35 cars took part, with entrants coming from all across Europe and from as far away as Tunisia and Palestine. The crews gathered for a welcome meal and team briefing on the Friday evening, before the event proper began on the Saturday morning. Driving loops taking in…

the circus comes to town

‘Speculators have overlooked the potential of cars like the 360 Modena’ SCOTTSDALE, WHERE MOST of the action happens during January’s Arizona Auction Week, is a place where New Year’s resolutions go to die. Folks who have promised to eat more healthily and spend more carefully leave town full of chimichangas and towing a four-wheeled impulse buy. Barrett-Jackson is hoping to lead bidders into temptation by offering more cars – and more no-reserve cars – than ever before. it means to shift almost 2000, and the other auction houses are going to be seriously busy, too. As ever, individual lots could tell us as much about the state of the market as the overall results, and one of the cars prognosticators will be watching is the 1958 250 gT cabriolet Series 1 that has…
