new kind of croc

For the first time in over 80 years, researchers have discovered a new crocodile species dubbed Mecistops leptorhynchus or more commonly known as the Central African slender-snouted crocodile. Located across the continents of Cameroon to Tanzania, the reptile was initially believed to be the same species as a West African crocodile called the Mecistops cataphractus. However, it has since been confirmed that the Central African crocodile has a softer, smoother appearance and lacks the bony crests on its skull compared to its West African counterpart. Researcher at Florida International University, Matt Shirley, estimates there are only about 500 of the newly-discovered reptiles left in the wild, making them critically endangered. The latest studies is hoped to encourage additional conservation work for both types of crocodiles.…

An entrepreneurial teenager has invented a selection of guilt-free treats that help clean your teeth. Alina Morse’s sugar-free Zollipops use sweeteners erythritol and xylitol to reduce acidity in the mouth and protect against cavities whilst also being gluten-free, non genetically modified, vegan, dairy free and organic. At nine-years-old, Morse developed a healthier type of sweet suggesting that “Consumers are realising there is way too much sugar in their diets but we still want to have treats.” At 13-years-old, Morse became the leading lollipop seller on Amazon with her Zolli products including lollipops, drops and chews in a variety of flavours. Last year, Morse was declared the youngest person ever to appear on the cover of ‘Entrepreneur’ magazine featuring in a story about young millionaires.…
