A giant chicken has found unexpected fame after confused video viewers thought they were watching a person dressed in a chicken costume. Over 300,000 people have checked out the video via YouTube featuring a Brahma chicken, a breed that can grow to over one metre in height. One Brahma breeder, Luke Price, from South Australia, owns 100 of the feathered fowl and described them as, “generally very placid [but] they do have a bit of a presence about them... the biggest of them would be able to eat off your dining room table.” Even though this particular poultry species are large in size, their eggs are usually the equivalent size to that of a regular chook. Residents of a small Canadian town were shocked recently when their tap water started to run a strange bright pink colour. Believed to have been caused by an initial problem at the water treatment plant in Onoway, a stuck valve reportedly released an excessive amount of potassium permanganate into the water distribution. Town Mayor, Dale Krasnow, addressed the situation and told the 1,000 residents there was no public health risk stating, “While it is alarming to see pink water coming from your taps, potassium permanganate is used in normal treatment processes to help remove iron and manganese.” Where some residents refused to use the strange coloured water, others were not as fussed.
