Q ‘Should I appeal speeding fine?’ First of all, I’m a big fan of your column in MCN. It’s very insightful and always useful for future reference. My question is this... I received a speeding fine on August 23. However, I’m aware of a law (though I don’t know the ins and outs) that states if an intent to prosecute isn’t received within 14 days, the fine is nullified. I received mine on the September 25. Are there any caveats to this before I appeal and bite off more than I can chew? I recently moved properties and also put on a private licence plate, so I reckon this is the reason for the delay. However, I don’t know whether this is reason enough for them to forego the above law? Jamie…

‘the enfield ticks literally all the boxes’

MCN CONTRIBUTOR The Interceptor is almost unchallenged at being the most affordable retro. By ticking literally all the retro roadster boxes, by also proving to be a decent, pleasant ride and chiming in for almost £2500 less than the cheapest Bonneville (which, though better performing, can’t match all the retro details), the Enfield is so compelling. But this test also revealed three further things: The Enfield’s not perfect and, pushed hard, reveals its slightly budget nature (although for many that might matter little). The Caballero, starting at £6399 (although not in this Deluxe spec), is priced close enough to be a valid, if slightly niche, alternative that a B-road connoisseur will enjoy and last, but by no means least, the spirit of the ‘street trailie’ is alive and well. Winning grasstrack Peter (#21) also raced grasstrack. He won the 350cc British championship in 1971 and ’72, and got to seven world finals. First near miss In 1975 a track cock-up robbed him of the world title. Being world champ Peter beat Ivan Mauger to get to the world final in 1976. Injury brilliance Peter’s ability to ride through pain was legendary. He came second in the 1977 world individual final after having 350 stitches. Awarded the MBE Peter could barely believe it when he met the Queen. New projects Peter’s restored 63 bikes and is thinking about a museum.…
