new lenses or camera body - which should you upgrade first?

Photo by: Jeff Hopper Photo by: John Noonan For most photographers, the most important pieces of kit are their camera bodies and lenses. So when it comes time to invest in new kit, it can be difficult to know whether to put your money into a new body or a new lens. Which one should you upgrade first? Unfortunately, as with many things in photography, there’s no ‘one size fits all’ answer! In this article, I’ll look at the factors to consider and hopefully help you to make the right decision for your needs. THE CAMERA BODY Your camera body essentially houses the controls that allow you to take digital photos. The body you shoot with is responsible for many things, but for the purposes of this article I’m talking about how the body affects…

featured photographer: moisés rodríguez pineda

When it comes to Moisés Rodríguez Pineda, his mantra is "less is better" and when you see his images you'll immediately understand why. He's niched down into an aspect of photography that you don’t see a lot of people doing and has really established himself as an authority in the black and white minimalist space. We've worked with Moisés over the years, featuring some of his images, and watched him progress and his portfolio grow. We felt it was time to share it with you. His work is stunning - we hope you agree. Photographic Speciality/Style: Mostly Black and White/Minimalism Short Bio: Hello, my name is Moisés Rodríguez Pineda. First of all, thanks for the interview and the space to contribute some of my work to the pages of “Photography Masterclass Mag”. I was born and raised…

sean goebel’s reflection canyon timelapse

Reflection Canyon is an aweinspiring offshoot of Lake Powell in southern Utah. It is accessible only by a 50-mile 4wd road followed by 8 miles of hiking. I filmed this montage during 2 nights in April 2016 and 4 nights in April 2019. In 2016, we saw zero other campers during the time we were there. In the ensuing years, it became popular on Instagram and other social media sites. In 2019, there were 10-20 people per night, almost all of whom were photographers. There was trash shoved under rocks and we found a pile of camping gear under a bush that had been…
