This four-part drama, adapted by Ailbhe Keogan (Bad Sisters) from the bestselling debut novel by Louise Kennedy, is a love story set during the height of the Troubles in 1975. Lola Petticrew (Say Nothing) plays Cushla, a young Catholic teacher who also works nights in her family’s pub, serving both Catholics from her own community and British soldiers and Protestant civilians. There, she meets and falls for Michael (Tom Cullen, The Gold), an older, married Protestant barrister who loves jazz and whiskey. Their illicit love affair, against a backdrop of curfews, bombings, and violence, feels dangerous and thrilling to Cushla and Tom. But Cushla also has to deal with her drunk, harsh mother Gina (Gillian Anderson), her, um, challenging pupils, and her close colleague…
