TRADE union federation Cosatu has welcomed Transnet group chief executive Portia Derby’s resignation, but has called for more heads to roll, especially at the beleaguered parastatal’s Freight Division, as it continues to remain a drain on the fiscus.
Derby and group chief financial officer Nonkululeko Dlamini resigned recently and will be replaced by Michelle Phillips, as acting CEO, and Hlengiwe Makhathini, as acting CFO.
Last month, Transnet reported a loss of R5.7 billion in 2022/23 and a drop of 23.6 million tonnes in rail freight, down to 149.5 million tonnes.
Cosatu spokesperson Matthew Parks said they welcomed the resignations, but also want resignations at the SOE’s rail division, Transnet Freight Rail.
