Coldplay “All I Think About Is You” Even the world’s biggest Coldplay detractor would have to admit they’ve hit a lush high point with this warmly majestic moment of crushed-out elation. “All I Think About Is You” begins low-key and ascends into stadium-singalong sunshine. 2. Rostam “Bike Dream” The Vampire Weekend architect-turned-pop-songsmith unfurls his vision of romantic bliss – “two boys, one to kiss your neck, and one to bring you breakfast.” It’s the most delicately transporting thing he’s done since VW’s heyday. 3. Wolf Alice “Yuk Foo” Wolf Alice singer-guitarist Ellie Rowsell is awesomely feral on this noise-scarred rocker: “I wanna fuck all the people I meet,” she sings. The country star will be filling in for the late Glenn Frey at the upcoming Eagles shows in Los Angeles and New York, along with Frey’s son Deacon. “Desperado” It’s the first song that Glenn and Don [Henley] wrote together, which is pretty astounding. Don’s voice is so distinctive; it’s not unlike hearing Ray Charles. “Peaceful Easy Feeling” This is so country. You could hear a guitar solo like that on a Merle Haggard record or an Emmylou Harris record. “I Can’t Tell You Why” It escapes me why Timothy B. Schmit never sang more. Glenn composed the solo. It’s one of the most musical expressions I’ve ever heard. “Rocky Mountain Way” It’s not an Eagles song, but they do it every night. T in Tulsa in March 2016, each filled with priceless artifacts from Bob Dylan’s past. Open up one box and see a handwritten draft of “Visions of Johanna” on yellow legal paper with alternate lyrics (including mentions of “nightingales” and “infinity codes”). Look inside another and find the leather jacket he wore at the 1965 Newport Folk Festival, and the guest list for a 1974 show at Madison Square Garden (Yoko Ono got two tickets; Allen Ginsberg got four). Another has a 1969 letter from George Harrison: “Dear Bobbie, Thanks for Nashville Skyline, it is beautiful. W, Post Pop Depression, gave Josh Homme a new perspective on music. “Iggy recharged my faith in rock & roll,” says Homme, “and in trying to blaze your own path at whatever cost.” So, for Queens of the Stone Age’s seventh album, instead of working with metal and hard-rock producers like he has in the past, Homme enlisted Mark Ronson, the producer best known for his work with Amy Winehouse, Adele and Bruno Mars. “That’s where I wanted to take this new Queens record,” Homme says, talking about the “dry sound” of Ronson and Mars’ megahit, “Uptown Funk.” “He’s as obsessed with drum beats as I am.” Ronson’s funk and Homme’s stoner swagger come together excellently on tracks like “Un- Reborn Again,” a glammy, T.
