Back in 1985, Andy Bell, a shy, gay singer from Peterborough, responded to an ad in a magazine looking for a vocalist to help form a new musical project. Vince Clarke, who just happened to be one of Andy’s heroes, had been a founding member of Depeche Mode and had also had success as one half of the duo Yazoo. But when Andy and Vince hit it off and formed Erasure, they went on to rule the synth pop sound scape of the Eighties and Nineties.
Some 200 songs, 17 studio albums and more than 25 million album sales later, they’re still going strong. In fact, their latest album, World Be Gone, is their highest charting since 1994 and they’re about to embark on another massive worldwide tour.
