Disruptions to routine vaccine, nutrition service critical in saving lives have been enormous
SPARE a thought for the world’s 1.9 billion children aged from 0 to 14, who currently make up 25.5% of the total global population of 7.92 billion, according to UN data.
Spare a thought, too, for South Africa’s 16.32 million children aged from 0 to 24, who constituted 27.2% of its 60.14 million population in mid-2021.
The data, like most population demographics, are estimates given the gargantuan task in modelling, collating and disaggregating information from countries with significantly disparate economic, socio-cultural and health system resources, exacerbated by pandemic-related lockdowns, social distancing and restrictions.
