The ANC said it was mourning what it called “a leading steward in educational leadership”, the late Free State Education MEC Pule Herbert Izak Makgoe, who died after his car reportedly hit two cows yesterday.
The party said Makgoe’s sterling record included top national matric pass rates for the Free State for the past four consecutive years, with numbers recorded at over 80% each year.
Makgoe, 59, popularly known as “Tate”, died in an accident on the N1 outside Winburg early yesterday.
His protector, Warrant Officer Piet Mdi, also died, while the driver, Warrant Officer Pule Nkopane, was hospitalised.
According to emergency personnel, on arrival they found a light motor vehicle that had hit two cows. Three occupants were trapped in the car.
