Dam levels in South Africa have continued to fall, according to a weekly report from the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS).
Farmer’s Weekly reported in December last year that dam levels stood at 76,8%, in the Eastern Cape, 63% in the Free State, 56% in KwaZulu-Natal, 68,1% in Limpopo, 66,2% in Mpumalanga, 69,2% in the Northern Cape, 49% in North West, and 64,5% in the Western Cape.
According to the DWS, all levels had since dropped.
Eastern Cape dam levels currently stand at 72,8%, Free State at 56,6%, KwaZulu-Natal at 55,1%, Limpopo at 64,5%, Mpumalanga at 61,7%, Northern Cape at 63%, North West at 42,4%, and Western Cape at 52,8%.
Current levels are at least 18% lower than during the corresponding period in 2015.
