MEAT PRICES MIXED
International: New Zealand steers traded 0,62% lower at NZ$477/head and cows traded flat at NZ$303/head. US prices were mostly lower: topside was 3,23% lower at $227,33/cwt, rump was 0,65% higher at $367,71/cwt, strip loin was 0,08% lower at $584,90/cwt, chuck was 15,27% lower at $207,44/cwt, and brisket was 14,03% lower at $205,71/cwt. Higher prices are steering consumers towards cheaper proteins such as poultry, and price competition from pork and poultry may add pressure to prices.
Domestic: Local prices were slightly higher. Class A prices were 0,36% lower at R39,19/kg, and Class C prices were 1,09% higher at R28,66/kg. The weaner price increased 0,70% to R20,02/kg. The hide price was slightly higher at R14,15/kg. Consumers are under pressure and may switch to cheaper animal proteins.
