MEAT PRICES MIXED
International: New Zealand steers and cows traded flat at NZ$583/head and NZ$383/head respectively. US beef traded mostly lower: topside traded lower at US$268,77/cwt, rump higher at US$461,42/cwt, strip loin lower at US$621,59/cwt, chuck lower at US$286,13/cwt, brisket slightly lower at US$260,36/cwt, and the carcass price was US$352,07/cwt. According to a US Department of Agriculture world supply and demand report, beef production declined as a result of a lower slaughter rate in the third quarter.
Domestic: Local prices increased. The various meat classes traded as follows: Class A prices increased 0,26% to R35,05/kg, Class B increased 3,35% to R31,12/kg, and Class C increased 6,92% to R30,27/kg. Weaner prices were slightly lower at R20,02/kg. Hide prices were slightly lower at R12,07/kg as supply continues to outstrip demand worldwide.…
