MEAT PRICES MIXED
International: New Zealand steers and cows traded lower at NZ$543/head and NZ$346/head respectively.US beef traded as follows: topside lower at US$232,45cwt, rump lower at US$303,05/cwt, strip loin higher at US$478,69/cwt, chuck lower at US$265,50/cwt, and brisket slightly higher at US$216,64/cwt.US prices were weighed down by a World Health Organisation report which has raised the threat of red meat’s possible carcinogen status.
Domestic: Local prices increase due to good demand during month-end buying. The prices of the various classes were as follows: Class A prices increased 1,09% to R35,20/kg and Class C increased to R29,42/kg. Slaughtering numbers increased and weaner prices decreased to R20,03/kg. Hide prices were slightly lower at R12,08/kg.
Outlook: International prices should remain low due to an expected increase in volumes in the market.…
