According to the Department of Water and Sanitation’s Weekly State of Reservoirs, released on 23 November, dams and reservoirs countrywide have dropped between 2,4% and 7,3% in the past month:
• Eastern Cape reservoirs: 76,8% from 79,2% in October.
• Free State reservoirs: 63% from 69,7% in October.
• KwaZulu-Natal: 56% from 59,9%.
• Limpopo: 68,1% from 73,4%.
• Mpumalanga: 66,2% from 72,7%.
• Northern Cape: 69,2% from 75,3%.
• North West: 49% from 56,6%.
• Western Cape: 64,5% from 71,8%.
In Gauteng, levels dropped from 85% to 80,4% but rose again to 81,5% following late-November rainfall in the province.
Current dam levels compared with a year ago (in brackets) are as follows:
• Gariep: 54,4% (71,2%).
• Vaal: 53,8% (79%).
• Sterkfontein: 93,8% (98,1%).
