The turnout at the recent Rabbit Farmers’ Day, hosted by a new commercial rabbit farmer in Bainsvlei, Bloemfontein, was unexpectedly high.
Yolandi Kruger, one of the event organisers, said she had initially expected only between 30 and 40 people to attend, and was pleasantly surprised when registrations eventually reached 120. Participants included commercial farmers, who were looking to diversify, emerging farmers, banks and financiers, who were being approached to finance rabbit farming proposals, and people with other careers who were considering a new enterprise.
“It was a good combination of people: those who want to do it in the garden, in the backyard, at commercial level or for development,” she said.
