Mexico and Nigeria have signed an agreement paving the way for increased exports of Mexican agricultural products to Africa's most populous nation. This also allows for expanded access for Nigeria's agri exports into Latin America's third-largest market after Brazil and Argentina.
Through the agreement, Mexico has sought to widen the scope of its agricultural trade with Africa, as 15 African countries currently export to Mexico. Products include sesame seeds, hibiscus ('Jamaican flowers'), rice, strawberries, maize, apples, cocoa, walnuts, pears, tobacco, grapes, poultry, lobster, mojarra (fish) and sardines.
Hydrated hibiscus flowers are used to make tacos, salsas, and salad dressings.
