Your tool kit: dust sheet, old clothes, masking tape, a variety of different-sized paint brushes, sandpaper. Start small - lamps, mirrors or bookcases are easy. Wash the piece down to ensure it’s totally clean (sugar soap works well) then protect with masking tape as required; for example, around the mirror if you are painting the frame. Check if it needs sanding normally you can tell by touch whether there is either wax/ other coats of paint that need to come off, or if you need to take off a gloss surface.
