Born in 1954, Tony McGee’s fascination with photography began early on. At the age of eight, he’d assume camera duties during family get-togethers. “It always had that wow factor,” he explains. “Photography, to me, was magical.”
At 16, he became a fashion photographer. By 17, he’d bagged his first Vogue cover. Throughout his career, he shot the likes of George Michael, Kate Moss, Tina Turner, Bryan Ferry and – most famously – David Bowie. His relationship with the latter resulted in some of the most iconic pictures taken of the late artist, from pre-show boxing in Brussels to ‘David Bowie In His Time Tunnel’, an image that immortalises the titular figure’s cosmic brilliance.
