The Lily Font, which held the holy water used to christen Louis, is a silver-gilt baptismal font that was commissioned by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert in 1840 before the birth of their first child, Princess Victoria. Prince Louis continued a 177-year-old royal family tradition by wearing the same christening gown as his big brother and sister, George and Charlotte. The gown is an exact replica of the original, which was worn by 62 royal babies (including Queen Elizabeth, Prince Charles and Prince William) before it was deemed too fragile to continue using. The new gown was designed by Queen Elizabeth’s assistant Angela Kelly and a team of dressmakers in 2004.
