As a child, Emily Blunt had a stutter that made it difficult for her to even say her own name. “I started noticing it at 6 or 7,” the London-born actress says. “My grandfather, my uncle and my cousin all stutter. It feels like you’ve got this impostor living in your body.” After a teacher noticed her stutter disappeared whenever she would launch into impersonations, he suggested she audition for the school play. Each morning on her way to high school, Nadya Okamoto passed more than 10 homeless shelters in downtown Portland, Ore. Hoping to help some of the women she saw, she asked what they needed most. The answer surprised her: period supplies. “They were using things like toilet paper and socks and cardboard,” Okamoto says. “I had [never] heard about period poverty.
