WERE THINGS REALLY better in the old days? Following this month’s cover feature, I’m not so sure. Before I set off for Scotland, a friend was reminiscing to me about holidays in the family’s elderly tourer, wrapped up in blankets to combat the chill, following a never-ending drive at a snail’s pace.
Today, we are spoiled. Powerful cars with stability systems, and caravans with anti-snaking devices, make a lengthy tow less of a chore. And the modern tourer, with its efficient heating, fixed beds and home comforts, is ideal for year-round touring.
Rumour has it that 2017’s tourers are going to spring a few surprises, and I can’t wait to see what’s in store for next season. I love seeing classic vans on site, particularly when hauled by a period…
