The Lake District National Park, in England’s north-west, has inspired countless poets, authors and artists, hillwalkers, nature lovers and day trippers. With its rugged peaks, green valleys, seemingly bottomless lakes and pretty stone cottages, it’s easy to see why. It is also home to the country’s highest mountain (Scafell) and its deepest lake (Wastwater).
Perfectly located in the heart of all this splendid natural beauty, sheltered by Skiddaw mountain and with Derwentwater at its foot, is the fine old Lake District market town of Keswick.
It was here that we based ourselves for a few days of gentle walking, sightseeing and, yes, a little shopping, too. More specifically, we pitched our home-on-wheels at Burns Farm campsite, around a 10-minute drive from the town centre.
