In close concert with perennial Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, they have used their newfound legislative majorities to push through unprecedented progressive reforms. The newly enacted Green New Deal promises to rid the nation of coal, airplanes and cows within the decade. Following the tragic shooting at two mosques in New Zealand in March, Jacinda Ardern, that nation’s prime minister, called for a ban on all “military-style” rifles. These firearms were defined as “a semiautomatic firearm capable of being used with a detachable magazine which holds more than five cartridges.” Of course, no sooner had Ardern made this announcement than various gun-grabbers here, including multiple Democratic contenders for president, jumped on the proverbial bandwagon and called for a similar ban in the United States. Opponents of the Second Amendment are often vocal that “nothing has been done to stop mass shootings,” and clearly saw this tragedy as an opportunity. However, the divisiveness in our country hit a boiling point this past July.
