When we talked about what we wanted to focus on for our Social page this issue, John suggested the standard Proust-like question, “For your last meal, who would you like to eat with and what would you like to eat?” As you’ll read, that’s a hard one for me. There are so many people I’d like to sit and share a meal with, past (Mom and Dad) and present, both those I know personally and those I don’t. Mostly, I envision a long table on the top of a hillside under a pergola with the sounds of clinking glasses, cutlery on plates, soft and loud conversations, and the wind softly blowing in the trees — the thing I cherish is bringing people together around a table.
