cervecería kunstmann

The history of Kunstmann Brewery began as a family desire. In 1989, Armin Kunstmann decided to revive the craft brewing industry in Valdivia, which was destroyed by the Great Earthquake of 1960. With the help of his wife Patricia Ramos, and their children, he created the first Kunstmann Lager and the success of that first creation led to the eventual birth of their beer plant in 1997 in the Torobayo area of Valdivia.Since then, Kunstmann Brewery has grown to become one of the leading craft beers in Chile, making 16 different varieties and constantly experimenting with new flavors. “The essence of a true brewer is the desire to create new varieties,” Armin once said. “The only limit is imagination.” That entrepreneurial spirit lives on at Kunstmann in projects like the…

free environmental donors / donantes ambientales libres

The secret is out. Chile is the fortunate home to a bountiful, highly diverse natural landscape on it slender geography sandwiched between the Andes and the Pacific. Patagonia in particular is especially blessed, with its spectacular contrasts, where the ice fields dramatically merge with lush, deep green rainforests, mighty turquoise rivers, dreamy pampa and mountains artfully crafted by the ages. The travel community has taken notice: Chile has been named South America’s leading adventure travel destination at the World Travel Awards, the “Oscars of tourism,” for four consecutive years. But as Eugenio Rengifo, director of Friends of Parks in Patagonia, writes in our environmental column this issue, foundations, corporations and individuals in Chile not only have no tax incentive to donate to conservation organizations working to protect their country’s considerable natural…

20 epic hikes in patagonia / senderos épicos en la patagonia

In our collective imagination, Patagonia looms larger than life. With their wondrous tales, explorers and sailors, and writers like Francisco Coloane and Bruce Chatwin, have forged this wild landscape into legend. It has also become a world-class hiking destination, the place where unadulterated Andean wilderness rubs up against the world’s largest nonpolar ice fields. From vast steppe to volcanoes, glaciers, rainforests and wild rivers, the variety in its topography and the diversity of its ecosystems are staggering. All the while, Patagonia’s end-of-the-world address has kept much of it largely undeveloped in modern times. This can mean that connectivity is sometimes tenuous: landslides on Chile’s Carretera Austral – or “Southern Highway – block roads on a regular basis, while storms cancel flight and ferry connections. In Patagonia, we are continually reminded that…

Amongst the world’s most stunning day hikes, this easy 18km round-trip in Parque Nacional Los Glaciares is a must-do. Clear skies are key: Cerro Torre is notoriously fickle, clouding over before other features when foul weather comes howling through. The trail leads from the center of El Chalten up over open terrain into fragrant lenga forest. The namesake overlook offers extraordinary views of the massif, with tumbling glaciers flanking the spire. The hike takes around eight hours, but you can stretch it into an overnight by staying at Campamento De Agostini.La vista de las agujas talladas del Cerro Torre nunca se queda corta en lo sublime. Entre las caminatas…
