editor’s letter

The word is quickly spreading about RECOIL and the response has been overwhelming. I would like to thank everyone who picked up a copy, downloaded our inaugural issue, or “liked” us on Facebook. Every one of your comments are being read and we are listening. RECOIL was originally given a green light as a single issue to see if a publication like this had an audience. As development went on, we felt strongly enough to move ahead and plan RECOIL as a quarterly magazine even before the first issue went on sale. Thanks to all of your responses I am pleased to report that RECOIL has now been bumped up to be a bimonthly magazine! Your response also has driven us to increase our presence beyond print. Both our website [] and…

hollywood guns

Nestled in the hills just 15 miles north of Hollywood, California, is a 150,000-square-foot facility that houses over one-million props that are used in feature films, television shows and commercials, and videogames. Aside from props such as lawn mowers, saddles, and vintage glass bottles, Independent Studio Services (ISS) houses 15,000 working firearms from all eras. From flintlocks to miniguns, this prop house has it all, and then some. Gregg Bilson, Sr. began ISS from his home in 1977, renting props to the film and television industries. Since then, ISS has grown to become one of Hollywood’s go-to sources for a wide array of props, including firearms and other weapons. Greg Bilson, Jr. now runs this family business, which has expanded to include offices in seven states, including Louisiana, Georgia, and New…

plan b rig

Not every day can be full of rainbows and sunshine, so when skies turn dark and threatening, it’s best to have a Plan B. Whether you are escaping quickly eroding civility in the city, or just trying to get to higher ground to outlast the storm, it is important to chose a vehicle wisely and outfit it smartly. Over the years, the experts at our sister publication Four Wheeler have built many vehicles with exactly that mindset. One such rig was the 2009 Hummer H3 Alpha you see here. Adding to a factory foundation that included a 4:1 transfer case, front and rear electric lockers, and a 300-horsepower, 5.3-liter, V8 engine, Four Wheeler built this H3 in conjunction with Attitude Performance in Arlington Heights, Illinois, to survive the toughest trails, making…

maximizing polaris’

Polaris’ Ranger EV is a sturdy workhorse right out of the box and a popular choice among enthusiasts who require a tough, versatile UTV. Its 11.5-kilowatt battery stack and 30-horsepower, electric motor deliver enough performance to overcome most situations; naturally, however, functionality and modification are open to preference. Just ask Rick Sosebee, of Atlanta, Georgia, who has scoured the aftermarket and crafted this EV into a utilitarian go-getter for both work and play. 1 Critical out in the elements, Seizmik’s soft top and rear panel for the midsize Ranger offers a couple of great features: On hot days, the rear panel rolls up for additional air flow and the top itself attaches via a hook-and-loop system, allowing it to fit any windshield universally. BRAND: Seizmik MODEL: Midsize Polaris Ranger Soft Top & Back…
