Any chance of a Season 2? —Margie MATT ROUSH: The show, starring Hilary Swank as an investigative reporter at a small Alaska newspaper, hasn’t been canceled—yet. The March 30 episode was intended as the season, not series, finale, with a shorter run than most network dramas, but even that’s becoming more common. It’s “on the bubble” for renewal, which may be a long shot, because shows about journalism can be a tough sell. But I’m rooting for it to survive, much as I do for local newspapers in general. Based on the life of series creator Adam F. Goldberg, the comedy explored the gnarliest decade via big-loving mom Beverly (Wendi McLendon-Covey), bombastic father Murray (Jeff Garlin) and their three children: aspiring singer Erica (Hayley Orrantia), wired Barry (Troy Gentile) and video camera–toting Adam (Sean Giambrone)—as well as Beverly’s rascally father Albert “Pops” Solomon (George Segal). “Adam always had a very specific vision, and he really established just a great template for a family comedy,” says executive producer Alex Barnow.
