It’s officially a new year, and for many people that means it’s time for New Year’s resolutions. Personally, I love making resolutions, even if I know I will forget all about them by March. As you’re making your resolutions, remember to add some quilting ones. Want to learn a new-to-you technique? Try Playtime on page 64; it is a great introduction to improvisational piecing. You also can use the new year as the impetus for brushing up on your sewing skills. Our redesigned Back to Basics section, page 96, provides more skill-building content and tips than ever before. If you are resolved to get more involved in the quilting community in 2018, join the Star Search Quilt- Along, page 50, and the AllPeopleQuilt.com 2018 UFO Challenge (AllPeopleQuilt.com/resolution). I happen to have so…

check it out! quiltingintherain.com @quiltingintherain search: Quilting in the Rain WHAT/WHO INSPIRED YOU TO START QUILTING? I’m the first quilter in my family, so, honestly, a fabric shop did! I walked into a local fabric shop and left all starry-eyed. I kept returning to buy fabric even though I didn’t own a sewing machine. My husband thought I was nuts. That Christmas he bought me a sewing machine, and the rest is history! WHEN I FIRST STARTED QUILTING I WISH I KNEW... That it’s okay to break the rules sometimes because that’s how we let our inner creativity shine! In my first book, Quilt As-You-Go Made Modern, there’s a quote that says, “Learn the rules like a pro, so you can break them like an artist!” This mind-set allowed me to write my two books. HOW…

Traditional barn quilts are made in solid colors. When Corey Yoder designed a variation of her pattern using solids instead of prints, quilt tester Jan Ragaller was eager to make the pillow in the more traditional color palette. The fact that the pattern looks just as stylish in solids as it does in prints is a testament to the timeless appeal of barn quilt star blocks. Fabrics are from the Painter's Palette Solids collection by Paintbrush Studio (fabri-quilt.com). FREE PATTERN! AllPeopleQuilt.com/526…
