equality through preparedness

This was a difficult issue for the team to produce. We had to take a hard look at some very uncomfortable topics. But disaster and hardship are equal opportunity animals. Survival isn’t predicated on your size, shape, strength, or gender. In September 2019, the research website Statista published a study titled Number of Violent Crime Victims in the United States by Gender 2005-2018. In 2018, the numbers of male and female victims of violent crime were about equal: 1,615,610 versus 1,638,640 respectively. Prior to that, the number of female victims of violent crime was always lower than that of male victims. We have covered the topic of lockpicking extensively in previous issues, but while skills will take you a long way, it’s also important to have the right tools. Lockpicks come in a wide variety of shapes, sizes, and configurations. Choosing the best kit to meet your personal EDC requirements can be challenging if you don’t know where to start. It’s great to have an 800-piece lockpick set with every pick profile, tension wrench design, and bypass tool known to man, but the best lockpicking tools on the planet will do you…

what if?

Many of you who are regular readers of RECOIL OFFGRID know the tactical landscape quite well by now. You could easily procure clothing and equipment of various contexts to persuade the uninformed that you have scepters of authority and special privileges. In fact, if you read “The Crimson Perception” in Issue 35, you’d have a working knowledge of how, combined with a convincing story, you could easily fool many into thinking your disguise was the real deal. What if someone used this trickery for nefarious means and attempted to pull you over in what looked like an actual squad car or law enforcement motorcycle? Their badge and clothing might appear official. How would you know if it’s an actual police officer or an imposter? What are your rights to verify credentials…
