100%biker

EDITORIAL Here at Casa 100% we like a good film, a good book and loads of trivia. With Christmas approaching and being the season of quizzes, we decided to combine all three. It cannot have escaped your knowledge, not least because of our six-page feature in 100% Biker #251, that this year marked the fiftieth anniversary of Easy Rider. Whatever your opinion of the film might be—the most influential motorcycle film of all time or sprawling hippy tosh—there’s no doubting that it’s the first bike film that almost anyone thinks of when the subject arises. So, when you’re really bored at Christmas, when you couldn’t force down another pig in blanket or mince pie and when you realise that Mrs Doubtfire is on the telly for the thirty-second time this year, sharpen up…

new harley models – but not just yet

The Pan America uses the all-new Revolution Max engine, a 1250cc liquid-cooled 60-degree V-twin that probably represents the least traditional offering from the MoCo since the V-Rod’s engine of which, you will have surmised from its name and configuration, this is a descendant. Harley has employed its finest wordsmiths to encapsulate the essence of the new model which is, ‘an all-new advanced adventure touring multi-purpose motorcycle equal parts campfire, wanderlust, and grit. The Pan America is a two-wheel multi-tool built to endure, designed to explore, and engineered for the unknown.’ We rather like our motorcycles to be made of metal and stuff, rather than ashes and grit, but we get the drift. In line with its ambitious plans for extra sales, it would seem logical for Harley-Davidson to tackle another market…

ace’s iron horse

Down in deepest Somerset, Ariel has been quietly producing its handmade Ace since 2014 (alongside, of course, its hooligan four wheelers, the road-going Atom and the off-roading Nomad). Now it’s launched the Iron Horse, which is based on the Ace, as a tribute to the famous ‘Black Ariels’. The Black Ariels refers to the models designed by Val Page and which were produced from 1926 to 1930, during which time the Ariel horse logo was introduced. The new model comes with a price tag of £29,646, but then this is essentially a handbuilt machine – the aluminium frame itself takes over seventy hours to produce and is CNC-machined from six individual billet sections before mounting points for the tank, saddle and suspension options are added. On the Iron Horse, that frame…

new money at norton

It’s been interesting times at Norton. At the beginning of November, the Derbyshire-based company launched a fundraising drive on Crowdcube, the same crowd funding platform used by the ill-fated Arc Vector project, with the aim of raising £1 million to increase production of its new models. Despite a turnover of £6.7 million in the year ending March 2018, Norton only made a pre-tax profit of £33,701, although that was an improvement on the £201,842 loss of the previous year. However, almost as soon as it was announced—within hours to be precise—the Crowdcube campaign was put on hold when Norton said a single investor had come forward to put up the money, although it didn’t rule out reinstating the crowdfunding appeal at a later date. Earlier in November, Norton CEO, Stuart Garner, was…

find it, fix it, flog it

Got some good stuff in your shed? Want to make it famous? Then Channel 4’s Find It, Fix It, Flog It is looking for you. The series, which stars Henry Cole and Simon O’Brien, is based around the pair ferreting around in people’s sheds and drinking tea as they hunt for vintage and unusual items to restore and sell at a profit for their owners. Obviously it doesn’t have to be a shed—it can be a garage, a lock-up, a barn or even a shipping container as long as it has something interesting in the automotive or mechanical line loitering in its depths. Don’t worry, the programme won’t reveal where your shed is, either. Filming of the next series of Find It, Fix It, Flog It will start in March 2020 and…

the blackstone tek hypertek

Blackstone Tek is a South African company best known for its carbon fibre wheels—you may know it better as BST—but now it has turned its attention and talents to creating a truly futuristic motorcycle. And when company founder Gary Turner decided to do that, he enlisted the best of the best. The HyperTek has been designed by Pierre Terblanche, the man whose design CV includes the Ducati 749, the Ducati 999 and the Hypermotard, as well as the Royal Enfield Himalayan and the Confederate X132 Hellcat Speedster. A water-cooled DHX motor powers the HyperTek, produces 105hp and is powered by a 4,75kWh battery that BST claims to have a range of 186 miles and the ability to be fully recharged in just half an hour. The monoshock rear suspension sits inside…
