winter is coming!

Apparently this is a catchphrase from TV show Game of Thrones, which I’ve never seen, but heard a lot about… I don’t know about winter, but Noah’s floods certainly seem to have been on their way in this part of the north-west of England. So, it is that slightly sad time of year, when many of us lay up our classic Americans for the winter and go into some sort of suspended animation/hibernation for a few months (car-wise at least!). Of course, it’s not as simple as throwing on a dust sheet and locking the garage door until the spring. Many of us will still take our cars out for a spin if it’s dry and there’s no salt on the road, just to keep things ticking over. Others will start…

mach is back

The limited-edition, high-performance Ford Mustang Mach 1 will be available to customers in Europe for the first time ever. Making its European debut at Goodwood SpeedWeek in front of a global virtual audience, the Mustang Mach 1 is claimed to be the best-handling production Mustang ever offered to customers in Europe. Performance is boosted to a level worthy of the iconic Mach 1 moniker with enhanced aerodynamics, a specially calibrated 480bhp and 420ft-lb of torque, 5.0-litre V8 engine and uprated cooling for improved track capability. The Mach 1 is also the first production Mustang in Europe available with a high-performance Tremec six-speed manual transmission (as used in the GT350) featuring rev-matching technology for seamless down-shifts and an upgraded oil-cooler system for high-demand performance driving. Customers can alternatively specify Ford’s 10-speed automatic…

electric hum to gm supertruck

After months of hype and a decade on the shelf, the Hummer nameplate has returned. General Motors just unveiled the new GMC Hummer EV during a livestream debut event, pulling the sheets on a high-tech, high-powered and highly capable supertruck. Outside, the new GMC Hummer EV takes styling cues from its predecessors with a wide, horizontal fascia that reveals the Hummer nameplate in script between the headlamps when illuminated. The stance is tall and wide, with steel underbody armour located around the battery pack for aggressive off-roading strength. The profile reveals a four-door cab with a short rear bed, while 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tyres make the traction. Under the skin is GM’s new EV-dedicated BT1 architecture, which cradles the automaker’s latest Ultium lithium-ion battery technology and Ultium Drive motor…

first hellcat red eye import in europe

The first Hellcat Red Eye import has arrived in the UK via Germany and was brought in by Classic American advertiser Atlantic Autos, who have been in business for 20 years working on American cars with a background mostly in Mopars. This is the first official Red Eye Challenger in the UK and the Red Eye package upgrades the Challenger to an ever-so-slightly detuned version of the engine in the drag-race special Dodge Demon. It makes an eye-watering (or reddening!) 797bhp and 707ft-lb of torque and also offers some of the Demon’s trick drag racing technology. Drag racers rejoice, your daily driver has arrived!…

no lincolns to europe

Last month we speculated that since Lincoln had filed a trademark with the European Union Intellectual Property Office for its Lincoln logo, it must surely logically follow that Ford was planning on bringing the marque to Europe. Apparently not: “There are no plans to take Lincoln to Europe right now,” Ford Motor Company vice-president and president of the North American region, Kumar Galhotra, said in a recent interview. Instead Lincoln will continue to concentrate on its two biggest luxury markets: the United States and China.…

lakeside ’vette

The Lakeland Motor Museum has added another rare sports car to its collection – a 1992 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1, one of only six of its kind known to be in the UK. The vehicle, one of only 15 to have come from the production line in the US painted in metallic quasar blue in 1992, has been donated to the Backbarrow, Cumbria attraction by an enthusiast from Wokingham near Reading. Donor, Stuart Wilson, says: “To the best of my knowledge, I’m one of only two owners of this car, after buying it second-hand in California back in 2002 and importing it to England two years later when I moved back here.” Powered by a unique Lotus engine, it was the first production engine anywhere in the world that had two…
