Home February 2018

Home is a practical, inspiring guide for the home and garden that enables people to make their home prettier and increase the value – inside and outside. The magazine makes life easier for people wanting to buy a home, build, or make alterations, or even try their hand at gardening, cooking and decorating. Home doesn't just demonstrate what looks good – it explains what adds value, and why. The magazine offers readers affordable and accessible choices, help with do-it-yourself projects, and provide advice for renovations. It’s for men and women with ordinary lives, ordinary careers and ordinary homes; people who want to add value to their home with a limited budget.

WINNING LETTER A good look Godfrey Malibe of Acornhoek writes I’ve been a victim of my home’s interior look for far too long; it’s bleak and so uninspiring. Well, l can forgive myself because I lived alone for a few years before I got married. I used to buy things for myself, especially furniture, but I wasn’t concerned with matching styles or colours. After getting married, I realised that my house needed a serious redo. My wife is actually enforcing changes and there’s no refusing her demands. She started giving me lessons on how to buy with purpose and I now know…

all things bright & beautiful

Stick to a theme Tiles are a great way to add an unexpected splash of colour and enhance a theme. These hexagonal 70s-style, floral-patterned tiles were used to create a statement wall in reader Cara Saven’s retro space. Even though they’re intended for use in a bathroom, Cara found the perfect spot for them in her braai area – see her home on page 48. Acuarelas porcelain interlocking tiles from the Douglas Jones Victoria range, R450/m² The perfect cover Len and Faith du Plessis wanted to turn an indoor coffee table into something a little hardier for use on the braai deck at their home in Knysna. Len came up with the idea to use bright blue and green ceramic tiles that Faith hand-painted and baked at her pottery group. He used Pattex No More…
