Stay in your lane.” I don’t care for this term: More often than not, it receives a four-letter response. This comment turns up every now and again on InStyle’s Instagram feed. It seems to imply that a “women’s magazine” should stick to “women’s things,” which, according to this mindset, appear to be celebrities, fashion, and…celebrities in fashion. When InStyle highlights any of the myriad social issues facing this country or celebrates the women who speak up for themselves and for others, these trusty, rusty words will appear. They are often accompanied by a highly theatrical “Unfollowing!” (We greet that one with a cheery emoji wave.) Now, on Instagram—a cyber scrapbook we follow for kicks—the stakes are low. With more than 40 films under her belt, Kristen Stewart is no stranger to enduring extreme conditions to get the shot. We photographed the Happiest Season actress in her childhood hometown of Woodland Hills, Calif., where the heat index reached a scorching 110 degrees.
