HERE’S MY WISDOM FOR THE MONTH: You can’t know the crazy things that will bring you joy unless you keep your mind open to new ideas. The proof is right here, in my list of what’s making me happy right now: OUR VIRTUAL WALK I am thrilled that so many of you are joining us on October 5 to walk 5K—and it’s not too late to sign up! stressed? take a nature pill

Your new prescription for stress relief is as natural as they come: Spend 20 minutes in nature. We’ve known that time outdoors can result in a host of health benefits, but new research in Frontiers in Psychology is the first to measure the most effective dose of green therapy using a physiological response: levels of cortisol, a stress hormone. statin surprise

These drugs are prescribed to help lower cholesterol and prevent heart disease, but a recent study published in Diabetes Metabolism Research and Reviews found that statins may affect diabetes risk. An analysis of data from over 4,000 patients (most were obese) found that those who used statins had double the risk of developing type 2 diabetes of those who didn’t. As heart disease is a big danger for women, researchers emphasize that going off statins may not be the answer—instead, patients and doctors should discuss habits that help prevent diabetes, such as getting regular exercise and maintaining a healthful diet and weight.…
