He shot to fame at 16 as heartthrob Joe Wicks in EastEnders , but last week actor Paul Nicholls became the latest in a long line of soap stars to be caught up in a drug abuse scandal. Paul was allegedly filmed smoking crack cocaine at a friend’s flat in his hometown of Bolton three weeks ago. Paul, 36, who recently appeared in acclaimed drama The C-Word alongside Sheridan Smith, admitted in the past to battling with drink and drugs before turning teetotal in 2008, saying: “I was well on my way to a total breakdown. In February this year Sophie Serrano, from France, received compensation from a clinic after her daughter was swapped at birth with another baby girl by a drunk nurse. She discovered she’d raised the wrong child, Manon, when she was 10. When she met her biological child, she described the moment as “incredibly moving” yet “disturbing.” Neither family suggested swapping the girls back and years later contact ceased as it was too painful. Last week, 25-year-old Gayle Newland appeared in court accused of posing as a man in a bid to have sex with another woman. Chester Crown Court heard how Newland, calling herself Kye, wore bandages to disguise her female body, and covered her hair with a hat. She is said to have befriended the victim, also 25, on Facebook, before meeting up with her in various hotels for sex.
