I love Transparent – I’m waiting for the second series with bated breath. It’s a unique story about a transgender dad, and how his family deal with the issue. They’re all really flawed characters, but you love them and you don’t quite know why! I’ve also been watching Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt , which is very, very funny – and it’s brilliant to see a hilarious black gay guy in it who doesn’t feel stereotypical in any way. Emmerdale is famous for its thrilling stunts – so what was it like to work on such a dramatic set piece? “I don’t handle any of the dangerous driving stuff, unfortunately,” reveals Ryan. “The stunt men step in. But it’s nice to do action scenes like this because they’re so exciting. The one thing you have to do as an actor is to step up your game and try that little bit harder – since you don’t want the acting dwarfed by the action.” So far, it’s been a pretty scary year to be Robert Sugden, with all the violence he’s been part of and the repeated attempts on his life.
