“Corrie is famous for feisty females!” When you think of Corrie, you think of strong women. Well, I know I do. From Elsie Tanner and Ena Sharples, the Street has produced a steady stream of feisty females over the years, and become famous for them in the process. So when we were thinking about what to do with Coronation Street to celebrate our 25th birthday, we decided to line up a few of our favourites from the current cast. Some have been with us for the whole Inside Soap journey, while others are new Weatherfield legends in the making. If Laurel discovers Emma’s killer secret, it could be the beginning of the end for the nutty nurse. And as rumours persist that Emma will be bumped off later this year, a report claims that she will meet her maker in a live episode! The nation collectively reached for their hankies when the Square’s beloved Ethel passed away – helped to die by her dear old friend Dot. Sob! OWEN AND OUT! While Spandau Ballet star Martin Kemp was brought in by a different producer, John steered his hugely successful plots to a blazing climax as Steve Owen’s car exploded. LITTLE MO VS TREVOR It made for uncomfortable viewing – and we’ll never feel the same way about gravy on Christmas Day again – but Little Mo Morgan’s domestic abuse at the hands of hubby Trevor…

The war between the Mitchell family and Keegan hots up again this week, as youngsters Dennis and Will plot revenge against him. They’ve seen how Keegan terrorised Louise by making up lies about sleeping with her, and still not revealing the truth even after she reported him for rape. Dennis has developed a talent for getting into trouble, and he’s the sort of boy who can lead an impressionable lad like Will astray. So when Dennis concocts a plan to get back at Keegan, Will is dragged into it. The problem the boys have is that when they try to take action, the prank misfires – and instead of getting Keegan, Bernadette is the victim! Even gobby Dennis is scared as he realises that Keegan now has ammunition to come…

“WE ARE DEALING WITH SO MANY DIFFERENT ISSUES AND CRISES ” Starting a crime drama with a police officer chasing a suspect isn’t unusual, but we can’t think of many where the chase ends with the suspect punching a detective in the gut, and the cop being rushed to hospital because she’s pregnant. EastEnders has done a great job of cooking up a dark love square between Lauren, Steven, Josh and Abi – but we want more! We’re genuinely worried for Lauren as both Steven and Abi plot against her, and it’s clear that Josh has a ruthless side, too. Everyone is talking about EastEnders following the news that executive producer Sean O’Connor has departed the show. A tabloid newspaper has claimed that Sean (pictured right) was axed from the soap, after low ratings and mixed reviews to its recent approach to storytelling. I’ve been watching Reported Missing , but I can’t watch any more – it’s so sad, it made me cry . It’s all these cases of people who go missing and you don’t really hear about. The police are just brilliant – sometimes they find the people, sometimes they don’t, but the police work is incredible. It’s really interesting. I love anything where you have to guess what’s going to happen – Line Of Duty absolutely floored me, although I don’t know if I agree with the ending! SCHMEICHEL By Laura-Jayne Tyler, News Editor I’ve interviewed some big stars while at Inside Soap, but none as huge as the Great Dane who played Chesney’s pet pooch, Schmeichel. Off I went to his real-life doggy digs in Cheshire, and spent a lovely day with him and his owners. Sadly, though, Schmeichel – real name Spike – was feeling a little under the weather . “He’s seven in Corrie now, and that is a critical age for Great Danes,” his owner told me. WE WATCHED THE FIRST EPISODE with a fair amount of apprehension – would the games be too easy? Would the Dome look impressive enough? Would Mumsie make a cameo? – but it’s safe to say this revival has hit the ground running , with Richard Ayoade fitting in well as the host and deploying the deadpan humour he excels at. It seems the thrill of watching teams mostly failing at a series of challenges is just as strong in 2017 as it was in the early 90s. The true test will come when we get to see the episodes with regular punters rather than celebs, but the new format is very encouraging.…
